After giving him the information to where he could find what he was looking for, Audrey begged him to let her go. But he didn't trust her to stay put, so he brought out some rope and started tying her up. Once he had her trussed up tight, he knew she would start screaming the moment he left her. To make sure that didn't happen, he stuffed her mouth and tied a rag very tightly between her teeth to gag her. The moment he left Audrey alone, she started struggling to get loose. But she was tied too tight and she realized her only hope was to work her way over to the telephone. She was able to get the receiver off and dial "O" for the operator.
